35 Things you may not know about Anita Harris
1 Masterclass at stage swordcraft. Trained
by Royal Shakespeare Company Fight Master Ian McKay, and
worked with film Fight Masters Bill Hobbs and Peter Diamond.
2 Was
the Record Critic for “London Life” magazine
under the editorship of Da vid Putnam (Producer Of “Chariots
of Fire”).
3 Was a fat child until the age of 13 and the tubbiest
member of a Las Vegas Chorus Line at 16.
4 Completed her 3000th Pantomime performance on January
9th 1997 in that evening performance of “Aladdin”.
5 Is one of the leading and most sought after corporate
show performers. Has appeared for some of the worlds
major corporations – Daimler Benz, Ford, BMW,
Woolworths, Bristol Myers Squibb etc.
6 Her family owned a leading chain
of Cinema’s in the West Country. Her Great Aunt
was Ida Barr, famous for her song “Oh you beautiful
doll”.
7 Anita was an ice skating partner of World Pairs Ice
dance champion Courtney Jones.
8 Has
played cricket at Lords for The Lords Taverners sharing
the crease with Freddie Trueman and bowling out England
Captain Colin Cowdrey (underarm).
9 Has the same vocal coach as Michael Crawford –
Ian Adam.
10 Has the same musical director as Petula Clark –
Kenny Clayton.
11 Had an Afghan Hound (Albert.T.Queurkletule) who lived
to a record age of eighteen and a half years. Albert
appeared in over one hundred television programmes and
a Bisto TV Comercial. He also appeared famously on the
stage of the London Palladium, pee’d on the curtain
and was fired after one performance.
12 Had her portrait painted by Royal Portrait painter June
Mendoza. (Can be viewed on Pathe Pictorial 600).
13 Went to Kuching with Harry Secombe,
crossing the border into Laos Vietnam, concealed under
a tarpaulin in the back of a truck, to entertain an
outpost of 30 American soldiers who had been on the
post for a year without seeing a woman. They were so
overcome, they burst into tears.
14 Has captained celebrity wine tasting teams to victory
over teams of wine experts.
15 Her best friend was the late Lyn Marshall, famous TV
Yoga Presenter and authoress.
16 Had a number One in South America with a song contest
entry titled “Antonio” which CBS considered
such a poor song they refused to release it anywhere
else.
17 Her mega hit double gold disc “Just Loving You”
recorded in 1967, re-released February 2003 and charted
again.
18 She owns 50% of the publishing partnership that prints
and publishes her husbands famous Catgrafika limited
edition cat art worldwide.
19 She is Lady Taverner number 10. (Lady Taverner number
1 is Margaret Thatcher). The Lords and Lady Taverners
are charities “giving young people, particularly
those with special needs, a sporting chance”.
20 Anita’s wonderful nails are maintained by Supernail
of Los Angeles, Crawford Street London Salon. Anita
says “gone forever are those moments when I would
be repairing my nails in the Wings”.

21 First
Film Kiss – Jim Dale in the classic farce “Carry
on Doctor”. Second in “Carry On follow that
Camel” with Phil Silvers in which she played “Corktip”
the belly-dancing Spy.
22 There is a special exhibit at the Covent garden Theatre
Museum of The Performing Arts, tributing Anita’s
performances in ”CATS”. (Anita champions
the museum. “We must support and fund institutions
like the Theatre Museum. They are a time capsule and
preserve and present our heritage, now, and for future
generations”).

The attendance record for the “Talk of The Town”
cabaret room which showcased stars from Garland to Minelli
was held until it closed in 1985 by Anita. The legal
seating limit was 750. Anita regularly packed in well
in excess of 900-a-night plus hordes standing round
the balconies. She performed five award winning seasons
at “The Talk” before moving to “The
Savoy”.
23 As a young girl Anita suffered from stomach ulcers.
She maintains they were cured when she began to eat
Scots Porridge Oats. Which she does to this day.
24 The longest recorded curtain calls for any theatrical
performance were for “Dick Whittington”
starring Anita and Simon Oates at the Theatre Royal
Bath. 46 consecutive curtain calls on the last night
of the show, and the stage entirely buried in flowers
thrown from the audience.
25 Designer Thea Porter made Anita’s wedding dress.
Japanese Designer Hatchi created the award winning ‘one-shoulder’
costumes for Anita’s one-woman-show. A design
he later adapted for Princess Diana.
26 Anita has an 4+ octave vocal range.
27 Anita’s first driving license was her Las Vegas
American licence. The test taken in a huge Cadillac.
Somewhat different from the frog-eye Sprite used for
her U.K test.
28 Passed her high speed racing car test at Brands Hatch
with a high 78% pass.
29 In 1986, during her run in “CATS”, Anita
was given a Tiger ‘kitten’ by the Hong Kong
T ourist Board to mark the Year of The Tiger. That kitten
can now be seen in TV Commercials as the Esso Tiger.

(The ‘kitten’ was half full grown, had muscles
like Swartzeneger and fortunately developed an instant
affection for the “CATS” star).
30 Anita portrayed the role of Beatrice Lillie in the film
“Remember Jack Buchanan”
31 Anita’s portrait in the role of “Grizabella”
in “Cats” by her husband, the painter Mike
Margolis, is part of the National Treasure and exhibited
at The Theatre of the Performing Arts Museum, in Covent
Garden. London.
32 At the Barbican Theatre Anita performed the operatic
“Simple Song” from Leonard Bernstein’s
“Mass” to the congratulations of the composer
who was present in the audience.
33 Anita received a standing ovation for her ‘response
from the ladies’ speech to the Comedians Grand
Order of Water Rats 2001 Ball of the Year at Grosvenor
House. She, uniquely, was invited back to entertain
again for the 2002 Ball and won another ovation with
her performance.
Anita
was chosen to address the Jubilee luncheon for the Society
of Toastmasters in the presence of the Duke of Edinburgh.
34 Anita hosted and starred in the Variety Club Christmas
2002 Luncheon at The Hilton. Her performance was described
by Chief Barker Tony Frame as “spectacular”.
35 Anita is the first woman President of The Heritage Foundation
for Arts & Entertainments. A Charitablefoundation supported by actors and show business celebrities
that raises money for charity by tributes to Stars of
theatre, film, radio and stage, so that they are not
forgotten and in celebrating their memory, funds for
needy charities are achieved.
